While we don't really have that many rules or guidelines about guardianship and adoption, since in recent days we've been asked about it, Krystyna and I have devised a couple things regarding the issue of guardianship and adoption.
First off, it is recommended that all new children and parents start off with basic guardianship. The details of how long are pretty much up to the child and parent themselves. We won't dictate to you a minimum amount of time to spend as guardian, but we do recommend a guardianship or a trial period, as it were. This gives the child and parent an In-Character way of testing the waters and also gives them both a way out should things not work.
In order to process the guardianship and have the child "released", a small meeting with Ms Brianna Williams needs to take place between the child, parent and of course Brianna. It would be more of a formality than anything else. Basic questions, care of the child, etc. Maybe some papers to sign. It can be varied, depending on the needs and/or age of the child.
Once the guardianship has been fulfilled and both the child and parent seem to like or love each other well enough to go the next step, Krys and I have agreed that an NPC (Non Player Character) will be created in order to handle the legal paperwork for the adoption. Both child and parent will just go "out of the community" for a short period and either myself or Krystyna will play the lawyer and get the adoption finalized.
The lawyer can be used for other things as well, such as name changes, divorces, marriages, trusts, wills, and anything else you want to think of In-Character, but it would only be used as a NPC, not a regular character so don't think you can go to the lawyer's office to get a spanking. LOL.
